Learn more about Brave Trails and why we are proud to support them.
Brave Trails' mission is to build the next generation of LGBTG leaders.
Brave Trails is a national non-profit organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth leadership. They offer accredited summer camps, family camps, mentorship programs, meet-up groups, and year-round leadership programming.
All of their programs focus on helping LGBTQ+ youth find what they need most to thrive: their people, their place, and their passion.
In 2019, they provided 6 weeks of overnight leadership camp – 5 weeks in California and 1 week in Maryland! They proudly served 280 campers from 30 states and 9 countries at our 2019 in-person camps.
In 2020, they offered 8-10 free online support groups and activities for LGBTQ youth to help ease the isolation and anxiety of the COVID pandemic. Over 500 youth attended these programs in 2020.
Worked with over 100 amazing volunteer staff members who came from 17 different states and 6 countries.
Ran their camper-staff mentorships program for the second year with 20 matches and growing!
They hosted their second LGBTQ family camp with 78 participants!
Raised the funds to be able to award over $70,000 in financial assistance to campers in need so lack of funds is never a barrier to attending camp.
They are currently working on starting a mental health program for LGBTQ youth! Coming soon, stay tuned!
All of this and more!
All of the elements of a typical summer camp with a LGBTQ twist! Camp Brave Trails is designed to be a haven for LGBTQ youth, where they can build community, meet supportive adult mentors, and gain leadership skills.
Brave Trails Family Camp was built to address the lack of spaces where LGBTQ families can safely build community. At family camp, kids see other families that look like theirs and enjoy all of the magic of a weekend away at camp!
Their mentorship program pairs campers with Brave Trails volunteers and staff members to continue the special and supportive bonds they create while at camp. Having a trusted mentor to guide them through life is life changing and in some cases, lifesaving.
They keep their campers connected and thriving all year long with year-round programs. They offer safe, fun, and facilitated meet-up groups, online activities, leadership workshops, and more!
Their Directors speak at conferences and consult with numerous camps from around the country on how they can make their programs more welcoming and safe for LGBTQ youth and staff members.
All of this and they're not stopping any time soon! Be on the look-out for more program and BIG exciting announcements to come soon.
