Mountain View becomes latest to ban polystyrene products

February 15, 2014 1 min read

Mountain View, Ca. — Mountain View this week joined a growing list of cities that have banned disposal foam containers.

On Tuesday, the city council voted 4-2 in favor of an ordinance that prohibits restaurants from packaging prepared food in expanded polystyrene, or EPS, and retailers from selling products made out of the material.

Vice Mayor John McAlister and Councilman John Inks opposed the ban; Councilman Mike Kasperzak was absent.

"The bottom line with the Styrofoam is you are artificially producing something that will be there forever," said Councilwoman Ronit Bryant. "And there are perfectly acceptable alternatives to it."
